What to Do When a Loved One Dies
Losing a loved one is a deeply emotional and overwhelming experience, and many people find themselves unsure of what to do next. In times of grief, it can be difficult to navigate the necessary steps, but understanding the process can offer some peace of mind. At Remembrance Ladies, we are here to guide you through these difficult moments, ensuring that everything is taken care of with compassion and professionalism.
If Death Occurs in a Hospital
When a loved one passes away in a hospital, the treating doctor will take care of the necessary paperwork, including the death certificate. Once this is completed, we are able to begin funeral arrangements. You can contact us at any time, and we will assist in managing all aspects of the process, ensuring that everything is handled with care and respect.
If Death Occurs in an Aged Care Facility
In an aged care facility, the staff will promptly notify the doctor upon a resident’s passing. The doctor will then prepare the necessary documentation, allowing us to begin funeral arrangements. It’s important to note that many aged care facilities do not have the facilities to hold the deceased for long periods, so it’s crucial that we are notified as soon as possible. This will allow us to transfer your loved one to our funeral home in a timely and respectful manner.
If Death Occurs at Home
If a loved one passes away at home, the first step is to contact the doctor. If the cause of death is known and can be confirmed, the doctor will issue a death certificate. After this, you can contact us, and we will arrange for the transfer of your loved one to our funeral home.
What to Do in the Case of an Unexpected Death
When a death is sudden, unexpected, or the cause of death is unclear, it is important to contact the police immediately. The police will notify the Coroner, who will oversee the transfer of the deceased to the Coroner’s mortuary for further examination.
In situations where a post-mortem is required, funeral arrangements may be delayed until the Coroner completes their investigation. During this time, we will remain in contact with the Coroner on your behalf and keep you informed throughout the process. We are here to help you every step of the way as we plan your loved one’s funeral and provide support during this difficult time.
